Bulletin Board

This week I worked on a new bulletin board for our hall. The topic of this bulletin board was based on the subject of Native Americans, and the tools they used from the parts of buffaloes. The students had created pictures form the information that we provided and from what they had read in the different texts that they read. Based on that knowledge, the students drew different pictures of what tool were created, and where that tool came from (meaning what part of the buffalo it came from).

Arrays

My first experience in the classroom that involved a hands-on activity was the activity on arrays. The students were learning and reviewing multiplication facts, and the Mr. Civitelli thought that the students would learn the material better if they had a hands-on experience. therefore, Mr. Civitelli got out the masking tape and painters tape, and divided the class into groups. The groups were given a multiplication fact, such as 5x5, on a card. The students were then instructed to make an array on the floor. Here is an example that one group of students worked on.

Welcome to Fifth Grade!

This semester in Sequence I was placed at Cora Castlen Elementary, in Grand Bay Alabama. The teacher I was assigned to was Mr. Civitelli. He has been teaching for many years and I hope to learn many things from him. He has a classroom of 22 students, ranging at many different levels. In this blog, I plan on posting some of the interesting and exciting tings that we do in the classroom, as well as some of my work that I have contributed. Hopefully, this will not only guide others through the process of Sequence, but used as a reference for myself, to look back on and re-exam, when I am a teacher in my own classroom.
